What are the most important differences between the Ash'ari creed and the Salafi creed, and is it true that the majority of the Muslim Ummah adheres to the Ash'ari creed?

The differences between the Salafi and Ash'ari creeds have been previously explained. It is incorrect to say that the vast majority of the Ummah adheres to the Ash'ari creed; for the common people are upon their natural disposition (fitra), and whoever among them believes something Ash'ari, does so by imitation (taqlid). Many later scholars followed this creed, but the early scholars (Salaf) among the Companions, the Tabi'in, and those who followed them, knew nothing of it. Ash'ari himself returned to the creed of the Salaf. Furthermore, many later scholars attributed to Ash'ari (like An-Nawawi) are not truly of it, even if they interpreted some attributes.
