Reading coffee cups is a form of forbidden soothsaying, and it is a major type of (polytheism) and great evil. The texts of Islamic law have indicated the prohibition of soothsaying, going to soothsayers, and believing them. What soothsayers tell of real matters, they know through jinn. To be protected from them, one must seek refuge in Allah, maintain the prescribed Islamic protective measures, persevere in the remembrance of Allah Almighty, and avoid sitting with or associating with such people, except for those who are qualified to advise and invite them to Islam.
