Trade goods have the same hawl (one lunar year) as the money with which they were purchased, and is paid on them along with that money. The (minimum amount subject to zakat) for banknotes is the equivalent of 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver, and in estimating it, what is most beneficial for the poor should be given preference.
