If a miscarriage shows human features, or if trustworthy individuals testify that it is the beginning of human creation, then the waiting period (iddah) ends with it. However, if it is merely a collection of blood and trustworthy individuals do not testify to it, then the waiting period does not end with it.

If the waiting period does not end with the miscarriage, then the two months that have passed are counted towards the waiting period. The waiting period for a widow who is not pregnant is four months and ten days from the date of death, regardless of her knowledge of the death. As for a pregnant woman, her waiting period ends with childbirth.
