What was the food of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) like?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) guidance regarding food was the best. He never rejected what was available nor went to extra lengths to acquire what was not. He would eat whatever good food was presented to him, unless he found it unappetizing, and he never criticized food at all. He ate sweets, honey, and various meats such as camel, lamb, and chicken. He also ate rabbit, seafood, grilled food, fresh dates, and dried dates. He drank milk, sawiq (a gruel made from roasted barley or wheat), honey mixed with water, and date infusions. He also ate khazira (a meat and flour dish), cucumbers, aqit (dried yogurt), dates with bread, bread with vinegar, tharid (bread soaked in broth), bread with melted fat, grilled liver, dried meat, cheese, bread with olive oil, watermelon with fresh dates, and dates with butter. His practice was to eat whatever was available to him, and if food was scarce, he would endure patiently, even to the extent of tying a stone to his stomach due to hunger. Months would pass without a fire being lit in his house (for cooking). Most of his food was placed on a mat on the ground.
