Is a person afflicted with seizures (epilepsy) who takes a sedative that causes him to be unable to wake up for Fajr prayer in the mosque excused, given that he is a student of knowledge and a regular at the mosque?

We ask Allah to grant you healing, and may what has befallen you be a means of elevating your ranks and expiating your sins. If you can change the time of your medication to be after prayer, this would solve the problem of sleep. If not, then be keen to perform Fajr prayer on time by taking the necessary means to wake up, such as using an alarm clock or asking for help from family members. You have no excuse for not standing up [for prayer] when you are able. If going to the mosque is difficult for you, then pray at home in congregation with your family. Sleeping through the prayer until its time expires, while being able to wake up, is inexcusable. However, if you take the necessary means and still do not wake up, then there is no sin upon you, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "There is no negligence in sleep; rather, negligence is in wakefulness: that you delay a prayer until the time of another enters."
