The husband is obligated to provide for his wife, with whom he has consummated the marriage, and clothe her—unless she is disobedient and defiant towards him. Her maintenance is therefore obligatory in all circumstances: whether traveling or resident, absent or present, and even if she is imprisoned. This applies even if she is employed or wealthy.
