What is the ruling on young men portraying female roles in video clips?

Men imitating women in appearance, dress, and voice is a dangerous phenomenon due to the severe warnings against it in Islamic law, its negative psychological and social effects, and its deviation from sound human nature.

Al-Bukhari narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the men who imitate women and the women who imitate men."

Imam Al-Nawawi said: "Whoever strives to adopt the morals of women, their movements, their stillness, their speech, and their attire, this is the blameworthy one whose cursing is mentioned in the hadith."

Also, Abu Dawud and Ahmad narrated from Abu Hurairah that he said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the man who wears the clothing of a woman, and the woman who wears the clothing of a man."

The Permanent Committee for Islamic Research and Fatawa has issued a fatwa stating that men imitating women and vice versa is impermissible. Similarly, Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen mentioned that such imitation is forbidden because Allah created males and females, and each has its unique advantage. Whoever tries to make one like the other has deviated from Allah's decree and law. The curse indicates that this act is one of the major sins.
