Is it apostasy for whoever says that polygyny is forbidden or impermissible?
Whoever claims that polygyny is forbidden or impermissible, disbelieves, unless he is ignorant or misinterpreting. This is because he would thereby be falsifying Allah Almighty, who permitted polygyny with His words: "then marry those that please you of women, two, or three, or four," and he would be falsifying the Prophetic Sunnah which indicates its permissibility. However, if he states this out of ignorance or misinterpretation, he is sinful, and he must be educated and have the proof established against him. If he recants what he said, then well and good; otherwise, he is ruled to have disbelieved.
