The one who incurs sin is he who deliberately harms animals. As for the death of an animal without the intentional act of the one who caused its death, there is no accountability for it. Therefore, there is no sin upon you and no expiation, because what happened was not intentional. We have explained that showing kindness to animals carries a great reward, and that intentionally imprisoning an animal and leaving it uncared for until it dies entails a severe sin.
