Must a son meet his mother face-to-face, or are messages sufficient for greeting and maintaining ties with her if he is psychologically harmed due to a previous problem with her and his maternal uncles?

The rights of parents are immense, especially the mother, who is entitled to three-quarters of filial piety. Correspondence is not sufficient to maintain ties with the mother if it is possible to visit her, and visiting becomes obligatory if possible without harm. Severing ties of kinship is among the major sins and causes of Allah's wrath. Care should be taken to maintain good relations among kin, and we advise the intervention of wise individuals to reconcile differences.
