Scholars differ on the ruling of waking a sleeper for prayer, some deeming it recommended (istihbab) and others obligatory (wujub). Waking becomes obligatory when there is a fear of the prayer time expiring. One should strive to wake family members for prayer, seeking reward and to avoid the disagreement of those who made it obligatory.
