What is the ruling on one who felt that he was a disbeliever and did not resist this feeling due to forgetfulness, but after a period, he remembered that and resisted his feeling of disbelief and affirmed his Islam? And is forgetfulness one of the impediments to declaring someone a disbeliever (takfir)?
This feeling does not lead to disbelief (kufr). If the thought of disbelief crosses one's mind or enters the heart without firm intention, it does not constitute disbelief, as it is a form of waswasa (whispers/obsessive thoughts).
