Should a husband succumb to his wife's threat to abandon their children if he marries another, given his desire not to divorce her and his wish to marry another woman in whom he has found the qualities he desires?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
If a husband knows that his marriage to a second wife will lead to the disintegration of the family and the displacement of the children, and there is no pressing need for a second marriage, then it is not advisable. However, if he knows that his wife will be angry and then become pleased, and he has a need for marriage and the ability to be just, then there is no objection. He should inform her that this is permissible for him Islamically, and that he will not wrong her.
