Is it necessary to complete the Tarawih prayer with the Imam in order for the rak'ahs prayed with him to be counted?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The statement that whoever stands with the Imam in Tarawih prayer until the Imam says the taslim from the fourth rak'ah will have the reward of qiyam (standing in prayer) for a whole night written for him is incorrect. Indeed, Allah has forbidden speaking about Him without knowledge. It has been reported from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that whoever stands with the Imam until he departs will have the reward of qiyam for a whole night written for him. This reward is only attained by whoever prays with the Imam all of his prayer until he completes it. As for whoever leaves before the Imam completes the prayer, only what he has prayed will be written for him, based on the words of Allah the Almighty: "So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it."
