What is the ruling on shunning one's parents and sister after attempting to correct the sister's dress and the resulting anger of the parents?

Allah has forbidden women from displaying their adornment (tabarruj) and commanded them to wear the hijab and cover their adornment, except for what is apparent thereof. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, mentioned that women who display their adornment are among the inhabitants of Hellfire. What the sister did by displaying her adornment is a great sin, and what the questioner did by burning her immodest clothes is an even greater sin, especially if he knew it would provoke his parents' anger. His duty was to advise gently and inform his parents without violence. Now, he must apologize to his parents and promise them not to repeat such an act, because honoring one's parents is among the most emphasized obligations, and disobeying them is among the greatest sins. He should also seek the mediation of good people for reconciliation.
