What is the jurisprudential ruling on dealing with a neighbor who abuses verbally and physically, and denies his actions? And is it permissible to cut ties with him and shun him?
To deal with an troublesome neighbor, the following is recommended:
1. Communicate with him through a trustworthy person, such as the Imam of the mosque or a wise relative, so they can advise him.
2. Do not allow the women of the house to answer phone calls from unknown numbers.
3. Employ the method of mudaraah (gentleness in interaction and showing affection), which is a prophetic approach used to ward off a person's evil, such as visiting him, offering him gifts, and speaking kindly.
4. If that does not work, you can boycott him and suffice with returning greetings upon meeting.
5. You can seek help from the police and security authorities if there is evidence and a preponderant interest.
6. Supplicate against him, asking Allah to ward off his evil.
7. Move to another house if that is possible.
