Scholars have differed regarding the ruling on covering the face and hands, and the preponderant opinion is that it is obligatory. A common person acts according to the قول of one whose knowledge he trusts, and if he is given a that it is obligatory, then he is bound to adhere to it. A husband abandoning his wife because of her commitment to acts of obedience is considered a reprehensible act; rather, he should thank her and assist her. It is obligatory for a woman to cover her face and hands. Both spouses are advised to be wise and engage in good dialogue to discern the truth and be guided by it.
