How sound is the Hadith: "It was kindled for a thousand years until it turned red..."?
Al-Tirmidhi narrated a hadith on the authority of Abu Hurayrah, both as marfu‘ (traced back to the Prophet) and mawquf (traced back to a Companion), describing Hellfire: "It was kindled for a thousand years until it turned red, then for a thousand years until it turned white, then for a thousand years until it turned black. So it is black and dark." Al-Albani clarified that the hadith is weak, both as marfu‘ and mawquf, due to the weakness of Shareek ibn Abdullah al-Nakha‘i al-Qadi, as he had a poor memory and was inconsistent in his narrations.
