When is it permissible for a woman to choose her guardian for marriage?

If a woman has a righteous guardian for her marriage, he is the one who marries her. It is not permissible for her to choose a guardian unless she has no father, or if her father has lost the eligibility for guardianship, or if there are multiple eligible guardians of the same degree; in such cases, she may choose one of them. If a woman has no righteous guardian, for example, if she is a Muslim and her family are disbelievers, then her guardian is the Muslim judge. If there is no Muslim judge, then a just Muslim man may marry her off with her permission.
