What is the ruling on burying the deceased in the place where he died, and is there a difference of opinion on the matter?
The majority of scholars hold the view that burial in a graveyard is better than burial in homes, though burial in homes is permissible. Their evidence is that burial in graveyards causes less harm to the living, resembles the abodes of the Afterlife, and leads to more supplication for the deceased and mercy upon them. Furthermore, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to bury his companions in al-Baqi'. As for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, being buried in his home, it was so that his grave would not be taken as a place of worship.
