The answer

According to the majority of jurists, it is permissible to use a deposit as capital for Mudarabah (profit-sharing), as long as it is a tangible asset and not a debt. This is the view adopted by the Shafi'is and Hanafis. Therefore, if the deposited amount is a trust (Wadi'ah), it is permissible to engage in Mudarabah with it, in accordance with Sharia conditions. However, if it is a debt, it is not permissible for it to be used as capital for Mudarabah.
