The Year of the Elephant was named as such because Abraha al-Habashi came with elephants to demolish the Kaaba. So, Allah sent against his army flocks of birds (Ababeel), striking them with stones of baked clay (Sijjil), and He made them like devoured shredded leaves. The was revealed to Muhammad, peace be upon him.
