Is it not that the followers of Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab differ in creed from the rest of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama'ah by their adherence to the doctrine of anthropomorphism (tajsim) and assimilation (tashbih)?

The People of the Sunnah and the Community affirm what Allah has affirmed for Himself or what His Messenger has affirmed for Him regarding names and attributes, without ta'wil (allegorical interpretation), ta'til (negation/denial), takyif (asking "how"), or tamthil (likening to creation). This is what the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, his Companions, and the Successors followed. It is also what the jurists, traditionists, and imams of Islam spoke about. Tajsim (anthropomorphism) and tashbih (likening to creation) are abhorrent and reprehensible innovations. Whoever likens Allah to His creation has disbelieved, and whoever denies what Allah has described Himself with has disbelieved. What Allah and His Messenger have described Him with is not tashbih. The methodology of the predecessors is to affirm the attributes and negate any resemblance to creation. Thus, His statement, the Most High: {There is nothing like unto Him} is a refutation of those who engage in tashbih and tamthil, and His statement: {And He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing} is a refutation of those who engage in negation and ta'til. It is a grave fabrication to claim that the apparent meaning of the affirmations of Hand, Istiwa' (ascending), and Coming in the Qur'an implies tashbih.
