If a man imagines uttering a divorce, or utters it unintentionally, it does not take effect. Divorce also does not take effect if the divorcer does not raise his voice sufficiently for himself to hear, because this is not considered speech. Furthermore, even if divorce is uttered, the absence of intention to pronounce it renders it ineffective. The condition of intention does not merely mean the intention to utter the explicit word, but rather includes the intention behind both the word and its meaning.
