You are not obligated to pay your father's debt, but if it is easy for you to pay it, then it is an act of piety and benevolence. The marital bond ( عصمة ) does not dissolve with the father's absence; the marriage remains valid. The mother has the right to present her case to the judge if news of the father is cut off or if she is harmed by his absence. As for the enchanted (مسحور), if he comprehends his words and actions, he is sinful. But if the magic overwhelms his intellect, rendering him like a madman, then he is not held accountable.
