Is it necessary to inform the victim of the aggression in order to seek forgiveness, or should one seek forgiveness without reminding them of an aggression that occurred a long time ago?

Assaulting a Muslim by beating them without right is forbidden, based on the Almighty's saying: "And those who harm believing men and believing women for [something] other than what they have earned have certainly borne slander and a clear sin," and based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Every Muslim's blood, property, and honor are sacred to another Muslim." The aggressor must seek absolution from the one they harmed in this world before becoming bankrupt in the Hereafter. This is done by enabling the wronged person to seek retribution or forgiveness, informing them of the act so they may forgive or retaliate, accompanied by regret, abandoning the sin, and resolving never to return to it.
