Is the draping of the hands in prayer considered the opinion of Imam Malik, and is prayer permissible in this manner, taking into account the saying of some scholars that there is no authentic or weak hadith indicating that?
Placing the right hand over the left in prayer is the guidance () of the Prophet, peace be upon him, and the guidance of the prophets before him. This is evident from the prophetic traditions (Ahadith) and is the opinion of the majority of the Companions and their successors (Tabi'in). What is well-known among the Malikis is that placing the hands below the chest and above the navel is recommended (mandub). It is said that Imam Malik did not advocate for letting the hands hang loosely, but rather this was narrated from him due to a misunderstanding or for some other reason. The prophetic Sunnah is the foremost to be followed.
