Is polygyny obligatory for a Muslim who is able to?

Polygyny is a Sunnah for one who is capable of it, not an obligation. It is recommended for one who is able, due to the great benefits it holds for the Ummah, such as lowering gazes, preserving chastity, and increasing progeny. As for one who is unable to be just, he should suffice with one wife. Marriage, in its essence, is obligatory for one who fears falling into the forbidden (haram), and it is recommended for one who has desire and is safe from falling into what is prohibited, due to its benefits for religion and progeny. For one who has no desire, there are two views: it is recommended for him to marry due to the generality of the evidence, or dedicating oneself to worship is better.
