How does one afflicted with doubt in creed exit Islam, considering Allah Almighty's saying: "No one who has in his heart an atom's weight of faith will enter Hellfire," and how is a person held accountable for intellectual doubt that is beyond their will?

The saying: "None shall enter Hell who has in his heart an atom's weight of faith" is an authentic Hadith (definition), and its meaning is that only one who believes in Allah and the Prophet shall enter Paradise. Doubt is the state of being suspended between two opposites without preferring one over the other. It is the opposite of faith and certainty, for the doubter considers both the Prophet's truthfulness and falsehood to be possible. There is a difference between doubt that leads to disbelief and obsessive thoughts (waswasah). Allah is more merciful to His servant than a mother to her child. Even the inhabitants of Hell enter it while praising Allah, for they know that this is the ultimate justice and wisdom.
