It is not permissible to delay it except out of necessity, such as the need for money for expenses, treatment, or marriage. In such cases, it is permissible to delay it until the excuse is removed, and it then becomes a debt upon the muzakki (the one obligated to pay zakat), which he should pay whenever it becomes easy for him.
