How does the verse (And [mention] when your Lord took from the children of Adam—from their loins—their descendants and made them testify of themselves, [saying to them], "Am I not your Lord?" They said, "Yes, we have testified." [This was] lest you should say on the Day of Resurrection, "Indeed, we were of this unaware") apply to Jesus, peace be upon him, when he had no father?

The interpretation of the noble verse: {And [mention] when your Lord took from the children of Adam - from their loins - their descendants and made them testify over themselves, [saying], "Am I not your Lord?" They said, "Yes, we have testified!"} indicates that Allah gathered all the souls that would be created until the Day of Judgment, shaped them, made them speak, and took from them a covenant and pledge regarding His Lordship, so that they would have no excuse on the Day of Judgment due to negligence or imitating polytheistic forefathers. He made the heavens, the earths, and Adam bear witness to this. Adam saw among them the rich and the poor, and the prophets, and He specifically took a special covenant from the prophets regarding messengership and prophethood. As for the soul of Jesus, it was among those souls from which the covenant was taken in the time of Adam, and it was sent to Mary, whereupon she conceived him. There is no wonder in his creation from a mother without a father.
