If what was discharged was maniy (seminal fluid), he must perform ghusl (ritual bath) by scholarly consensus. If it was madhiy (pre-seminal fluid), he must wash the penis, perform wudu' (ablution), and sprinkle water on whatever clothes it touched. According to the Shafi'is, if a person is in doubt, he may choose between maniy and madhiy.
