A woman has the right to search for a righteous man to marry within the bounds of Islamic law. It is forbidden for her to establish a romantic relationship with a non-mahram man. If a girl rejects a suitor because her father refused him, she incurs no sin by turning away from him and searching for someone else. Among the most important foundations for choosing a suitor are that he be a man of faith and good character, and that he have a permissible job or work that enables him to provide a decent living for his family.
