If a benevolent loan () does not stipulate an increase, it is permissible. However, a loan with a stipulated increase is forbidden usury (riba), a major sin. Potential hardship does not permit borrowing with usury. However, it is permissible to purchase a car in installments through murabaha with an Islamic bank, whereby the bank purchases the car and then sells it in installments.
