Does God forgive a person who committed suicide, believing that his suicide was not despair of God's mercy but rather a longing for it, and in his endeavor to atone for his sins and donate a kidney? And does his not seeing a divine warning in a dream mean that God will not punish him? And is his practice of sodomy considered a legitimate justification for suicide? And is the meaning of the verse: "And do not kill yourselves. Indeed, Allah is ever Merciful to you" about suicide or about a Muslim killing his brother? And does the threat of Hellfire, "And whoever does that in aggression and injustice - then We will drive him into a Fire," apply only to one who kills his brother or commits suicide in aggression and injustice? And is there a suicide or killing of a soul that is not considered injustice and aggression, and therefore God does not punish its perpetrator?

If your brother died by drowning and did not commit suicide, then he is a martyr. However, if he died by suicide, he is a Muslim under the will of Allah, and forgiveness for him is hoped for through supplication, as a person who commits suicide does not exit the fold of Islam, as indicated by the hadith (definition) of Tufayl ibn Amr Al-Dawsi. The principle of Ahl al-Sunnah (definition) states that a person who commits a sin and dies without repentance is not a disbeliever and is under the will of Allah. Therefore, you should strive in supplicating for him.

As for the interpretation of the verse, "And do not kill yourselves. Indeed, Allah is ever Merciful to you," it has two interpretations: The first: Do not kill those who are of your kind among the believers. The second: The prohibition of a person killing himself. As for His saying, the Most High, "aggressively and unjustly," it does not imply the permissibility of suicide; rather, all killing of the self is forbidden, and the restriction excludes accidental killing.
