Is it permissible to break an oath – sworn upon the Qur’an during a moment of anger – to abstain from sexual intercourse for a full month, and does an expiation for breaking an oath become binding upon me, and what is it, if I retract this oath?

It is permissible to retract an oath and to approach one's wife before the sworn-upon period, and this is preferable, based on the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: "Whoever takes an oath and then sees something better than it, let him do that which is better and expiate his oath." The expiation for an oath is feeding ten poor persons, or clothing them, or freeing a slave. If one cannot find these, then fasting three days. A Muslim should not make many oaths.
