Does a menstruating woman perform ghusl upon intercourse?
A menstruating woman is not required to perform ghusl (ritual bathing) after intercourse, because her state of ritual impurity continues as long as the blood flows. This impurity is not lifted until the bleeding stops, followed by ghusl. Intercourse with a menstruating woman in the vagina is forbidden, as Allah Almighty says: "And they ask you about menstruation. Say, 'It is an impurity, so keep away from women during menstruation. And do not approach them until they are pure.'" (Qur'an 2:222). However, it is permissible to enjoy anything other than that, as the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Do everything except nikah (sexual intercourse)."
