Is it permissible for a man to have intercourse with his wife after the cessation of her menstruation and before she performs ghusl? And is her ghusl after intercourse for menstruation or janabah, or both?

A man is not permitted to have intercourse with his wife until she has purified herself from her menstruation, based on the Almighty's saying: "And do not approach them until they are pure. But when they have purified themselves, then come to them from where Allah has ordained for you" [Al-Baqarah: 222]. If menstruation and janabah (ritual impurity) coincide, and the woman performs one ghusl (ritual bath) intending purification from both, or removal of the impurity, or to make prayer permissible, then this suffices her according to most scholars. Similarly, it suffices if she intends purification from only one of them, according to the majority.
