Masturbation is forbidden due to its harms. Scholars have adduced evidence for its prohibition from the Almighty's saying: "And those who guard their private parts, Except from their wives or those whom their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors," and from the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "O young men, whoever among you can afford to marry, let him do so, for it helps him lower his gaze and guard his chastity. And whoever cannot afford it, let him fast, for it will be a shield for him." It is recommended to expedite marriage if fasting does not suffice, and it is not permissible to obey one's mother in delaying marriage if one fears temptation, for marriage does not prevent the pursuit of knowledge; rather, it aids it.
