Did Hatim al-Ta'i embrace Islam before his death?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Hatim al-Tai died a polytheist and did not embrace Islam. When his daughter was brought as a captive and spoke of her father's noble qualities, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "O young lady, these are truly the attributes of believers. If your father had been a Muslim, we would have sought mercy for him. Let her go, for her father loved noble morals, and Allah loves noble morals." The Prophet mentioned that her father did this for a matter he realized, which was remembrance (of Allah).
