Does seeing Jews grow beards invalidate the wisdom of growing a beard and turn the matter into merely a Sunnah? And does the disappearance of the reason for differing from the disbelievers by growing a beard, due to the prevalence of Islam, also turn the matter into a Sunnah?

The prohibition of shaving the beard is continuous and does not cease with the claim that the reason of differing from the polytheists no longer exists; because this reason is still present, as most polytheists shave their beards. Moreover, there are other reasons for the obligation of letting the beard grow, such as it being from the fitra (natural disposition), and from the sunnah (tradition) of the Messengers. Shaving it also constitutes imitation of women and altering Allah's creation. Sheikh Ibn Uthaymin emphasized that the ruling remains even if the reason (for it) ceases, citing the sunnah of ramal (brisk walking) in tawaf (circumambulation of the Kaaba), and that a believer must submit to the command of Allah and His Messenger.
