What is the opinion of the people of knowledge regarding writing "May Allah have mercy on a shrine… sought by those in need; The pole of the age, Ahmad, encompasses… The sheikh of the people of this era" on the grave of a righteous man, and is this poetry free from Sharia violations?

Visiting graves is legislated for supplicating for the dead and taking admonition. As for intending to supplicate at them, believing that it is more likely to be answered, this is forbidden or severely disliked (makrooh tahrimi). Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah clarified that intentionally seeking to supplicate at graves, believing in the virtue of that specific spot, is prohibited, unlike an incidental supplication. This is even more severe than intentionally seeking to supplicate at idols. As for supplicating the dead instead of Allah, this is major shirk (polytheism) that Allah does not forgive. Furthermore, describing a man as "Qutb of the time" is an exaggeration and an innovated belief unknown to the righteous predecessors (Salaf al-Salih). Therefore, the poet must repent and erase what he has written, as this is blameworthy exaggeration, in addition to the prohibition of writing on graves.
