Is it permissible to fast the eleventh of Muharram for someone who did not fast the ninth thereof?

Whoever missed fasting on the ninth day is recommended to fast on the eleventh day along with the tenth, in order to differ from the Jews; based on the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Differ from the Jews; fast a day before it, or a day after it."
