Is it permissible for a woman to perform Qunut an-Nawazil (Qunut for calamities) in her prayer when praying alone at home? Is it permissible for her to perform Qunut in her own language if she does not know Arabic? Is Qunut restricted to Muslims in India, or does it include Indian Muslims abroad?

Qunut is legislated during calamities, such as hardships or epidemics. It is performed in all prayers, not just Fajr. This is supported by the Prophet's (peace be upon him) qunut for a month in all prayers, after bowing, supplicating against some tribes of Banu Sulaym. The Shafi'is hold that qunut is legislated in all prayers when a calamity strikes, and their evidence is the hadiths about the Prophet's (peace be upon him) qunut when the Qurra' were killed. Qunut is legislated for both the congregation and the individual, whether one is in the land affected by the calamity or outside it. It is permissible for someone who does not know Arabic to make qunut in their own language.
