Why was the sun not mentioned with the feminine “ta” (تاء التأنيث) in the verse “and the sun and the moon are gathered” (وجُمِع الشمس والقمر), even though it is metaphorically feminine? And is it possible that “the sun” and “the moon” in the verse do not refer to the celestial bodies?

Scholars have mentioned several reasons for the masculine singular form "wujumi'a" (and gathered) in the verse: "And the sun and the moon will be gathered" (Qur'an 75:9). These include: their light being gathered away, or the masculine form taking precedence over the feminine, or the sun's non-literal femininity, or that what is meant is the gathering of the two lights, or the two illuminators. However, the notion that "the sun and the moon" carry a metaphorical meaning is invalid.
