Is it permissible for the one afflicted with obsessive-compulsive disorder (waswasi) to adopt the ruling "it is not forbidden to look at one's image in water or a mirror, even with lust," as stated in the marginalia of Qalyubi and Umayra, despite what might result from it, such as an increase in lust and masturbation? And is masturbation permissible for the one afflicted with obsessive-compulsive disorder if they adopt the easier ruling?

We advise you to strive against obsessive whisperings (waswasah) and to rid yourself of them by seeking refuge (with Allah) and by turning away from them, for they corrupt both religious and worldly affairs. It is permissible for the one afflicted by waswasah to adopt the easier opinion. We do not see the permissibility of adopting the view of the Shafi'is regarding looking into a mirror if there is a fear of temptation (fitnah) or lust from it, due to what it might cause in terms of infatuation and arousal, leading to prohibited masturbation. The remedies for this are marriage, fasting, and occupying the mind.
