What is the ruling on a mother telling her daughter: "I will not forgive you if you speak to this person again"?
The ruling on a mother preventing her daughter from speaking to someone varies depending on the person and the reason for the prohibition. If there is religious or worldly harm in the communication, or if the person is a non- (stranger), then the mother's prohibition is correct and obedience is obligatory. However, if the person is a mahram (close relative whom marriage is forbidden) and no harm befalls the daughter, then the prohibition is impermissible due to it being a severance of kin ties, and the mother is not to be obeyed in this matter. The daughter should honor her mother and maintain her ties of kinship, even without the mother's knowledge.
