Did the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, trim his nails every Friday?

There is no authentic evidence from the Prophet's (peace be upon him) sayings or actions that specifies Friday for trimming nails; rather, what has been reported regarding this is weak or fabricated. However, it has been narrated that some Companions and Tabi'un (followers) routinely trimmed their nails on Friday, and jurists from the Shafi'i and Hanbali schools of thought have deemed it desirable to trim nails every Friday. The preferred view is that the matter is determined by need, and there is no prohibition against checking one's nails on Friday, as excessive cleanliness on this day is legislated.
