What was the posture of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, when he sat to eat?

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would sit to eat either kneeling on his knees and the tops of his feet, or by propping up his right leg and sitting on his left, or by tawarruk (a specific sitting posture) on his knees, placing the sole of his left foot on the top of his right. These postures are among the most beneficial and best ways of eating, as they prevent overeating and keep the limbs in their natural position. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade reclining in its three forms (on the side, cross-legged, or leaning on one hand) and lying prone while eating.
